Martyred prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz commemorated on his death anniversary 30.03.2018

Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül commemorated martyred prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz with mercy and indicated that a great person who dedicated his life to the establishment of justice and the unity and solidarity of the country passed away as a consequence of a malicious and perfidious attack three years ago.

Istanbul Public Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz was commemorated at Çağlayan Courthouse on the third death anniversary after he was martyred. The father of the martyred prosecutor Hakkı Kiraz was present on the anniversary as well as Vice President of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors Mehmet Yılmaz, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Selahattin Menteş, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin, Deputy Undersecretary Ömer Faruk Aydıner, Secretary General of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors Fuzuli Aydoğdu, Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor İrfan Fidan, Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor İsmail Uçar and a large number of judges, prosecutors, courthouse personnel and citizens.

Delivering a speech on the anniversary, Minister of Justice wished mercy for martyred prosecutor Selim Kiraz. Gül said that a great person who dedicated his life to the establishment of justice and the unity and solidarity of the country passed away as a consequence of a malicious and perfidious attack three years ago.

Having stated that efforts are scrupulously made to make all the perpetrators of this attack account before the judiciary, Minister of Justice Gül said that the developments of this incident were followed altogether.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT AGAINST TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS

Minister Gül pointed out that the number of terrorist attacks targeting Turkey had increased significantly within the last five years and added: "No matter if we call them FETO, YPG, PKK, DAESH or DHKP-C, the main purpose of terrorist organizations is to eliminate the unity, solidarity, independence, freedom and future of our country. With the help of all its institutions and organs, the State of the Republic of Turkey has always fought and will continue to fight resolutely these organizations menacing the unity of our country and the continuity of the state."

Having told that this geography was ridden with traitors and all kinds of terror organizations for thousands of years, Minister Gül said: "But these organizations have never succeeded in eliminating our crescent-star flag, our independence. There is an infinite distance between the greatness of our nation and dishonorable position of these terrorist organizations. The greatness of our nation and State will surely bring these nefarious terrorist organizations to heel." Gül also emphasized that "Justice is the foundation of the State" and indicated that targeting the justice meant targeting the state and the nation.

I COMMEMORATE ALL THE MARTYRS WITH GRATITUDE

Having stated that justice had exceptional values and common grounds, Gül continued his speech as follows:
"I would like to take this opportunity to say that any act targeting public officials, especially judges and prosecutors, who perform their duties is not excusable no matter what its purpose is. While Turkish judiciary fights for Turkish nation today, no one will gain any benefit from their efforts to dishonor the members of judiciary by holding a gun to their head or making false accusations against them. This will be also a gross injustice for the members of the judiciary who make great sacrifices to establish justice. Therefore, I would like to commemorate all heroic security forces fighting the terrorist organizations in Afrin –since we also have martyrs today- and all the martyrs who volunteered to sacrifice their life for the unity and continuity of our heavenly land."

Having regard to the language used after Kiraz was martyred, Minister Gül reminded that he regretfully witnessed that an ideological language was used both in the media and in different platforms following an attack targeting the life of a prosecutor. Gül said: "Of course, everyone does things that would be expected from them. Justice requires efforts to give people what they deserve. We regretfully witnessed a pragmatic, careless and unconscious attitude to legitimize the murder."

Minister Abdülhamit Gül indicated that courthouses and members of the judiciary made significant sacrifices for the continuity of Turkey and the peace and unity of the country in the process following 15 July. Gül ended his speech as follows: "I would like to take this opportunity to commemorate, with mercy and gratitude, all the soldiers, security forces, members of the judiciary, courthouse personnel and all martyrs who died both in Afrin and in the eastern and southeastern regions of Turkey for the continuity of the country. I also commemorate with mercy and gratitude our martyr Mehmet Selim Kiraz, for whom we have come together.”
