Minister of Justice Gül: Restoring peace in the region is the ultimate purpose of Operation Olive Branch 27.01.2018
Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül went to Kilis to meet officials. He noted that Operation Olive Branch targeted the terrorists in Kilis and they have been trying to restore peace and security of the Turks, Kurds and Arabs in the region.

"Olive Branch Operation is not against civilians or citizens in the region. On the contrary, it aims to prevent the attacks on our citizens and country. We fully believe in the success of this operation which is against the threats of terrorist groups next to Turkey's border and in line with the international law. The operation has targeted only terrorist groups, not the ethnic groups or elements there. Besides, Turkey as a NATO ally provides security for the NATO as well as Europe and international community through this operation. It has an indispensable role on the security of not only Turkey but also the European cities." he indicated.


Minister Gül examined with the Deputy Prime Minister Hakan Çavuşoğlu, the destruction in Kilis caused by the terrorist groups, then visited the Governor's Office. Minister Gül visited the photo exhibition revealing the destruction caused by the rockets of the PYD/PKK terrorist organization and signed the honour book.

Following the visit at the exhibition, Deputy Prime Minister Çavuşoğlu and Minister of Justice Gül paid a visit to the Office of the Governor Mehmet Tekinarslan and discussed the measures concerning the Operation Olive Branch. The two Ministers were informed of the measures taken against the rocket attacks launched on the civilians at the city centre by the terrorist organization. Çavuşoğlu and Gül also visited the Mayor's Office Hasan Kara.


Minister Gül examined the badly damaged, historical Çalık Mosque in Kilis because of the rocket attacks of the terrorist organization PYD/PKK with Deputy Prime Minister Hakan Çavuşoğlu and made explanation to the press members. He conveyed his condolences to the relatives of the citizens who lost their lives and he continued " One bomb attack that was launched from Afrin towards Çalık Mosque demonstrates the importance of Operation Olive Branch. It shows that the operation targets the terrorists, not civilians. This attack on the Mosque, a sacred place of worship is a terrorist attack."

Gül underlined that the operation in fact is a peace operation targeting the terrorists and protecting the lives and properties of the citizens. "The operation is required as an exigency for safety. No ethnic group or different circle is the target of the operation, it is against the terrorist groups as the PYD/PKK and Daesh. The operation is legitimate and in line with the international law. It complies with the law according to the UN Conventions." he added.


Minister Gül stated that "We pray for all Turkish soldiers who, as they say, march towards the "Red Apple" (an important symbol for Turkish nationalism) and fight to establish the independence and peace of Turkey. Our country does not claim any territory from Syria. We have launched this operation successfully for the safety of our country and citizens, under the leadership of our President, the Commander-in-chief. We came to Kilis to wish quick recovery to the people of Kilis and observe the results of terrorist acts on site. We send our kindest regards to the Turkish soldiers. If Allah permits, this lawful operation will yield good results."


Within the scope of the meetings in Kilis, the Deputy Prime Minister Çavuşoğlu, Minister Gül and Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar examined the building that was badly damaged by the rocket attack launched by the terrorist organization PYD/PKK and targeted the city centre. The residents of the district cheered "May Allah protect you" showing affection for the Deputy Prime Minister Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Justice Gül and Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar.


Following the examination, Minister Gül responded to the questions of foreign journalists' during his visit at the press centre that was established on Öncüpınar Border Gate by Directorate General for Press and Information (BYEGM). Minister Gül underlined that the press members also devotedly fulfilled their duties during the operation and added "We extend our gratitude to you for your efforts and wish you success. You have reported the facts correctly, Turkish soldiers do not conduct the operation against civilians, innocent people but against terrorists."

When asked about the Operation Olive Branch, Gül said that Turkey ranks the first as a country lawfully fighting the foreign terrorist fighters and DAESH, PYD/PKK, he also underlined that Turkey combats terrorist organizations which are threat to the world and humanity.

Gül emphasized that Turkey is in conflict with terrorism within the boundaries of the international law and said "We are still determined in this respect. We share the numbers with the public. Turkey is determined about fighting terrorism, preventing and hearing those trying to go abroad as terrorists, about the Daesh and PKK/PYD members in prisons. Turkey's fight with terrorism is highly important for the peace and safety of the international community. Therefore, Turkey must not be left alone and must be supported in this fight with terrorism, this will be for the benefit of the international community. No matter which terrorist organization is threatening the world, Turkey will continue fighting them." he indicated.

Furthermore, Minister Gül visited the family of Gendarmerie Specialized Sergeant Yılmaz Özden who was martyred due to gas release from the artesian well in Ağrı M Type Prison.
